Proximity & Presence: The Sierra Leone Portraits

A study in intimacy and historical transition. Utilizing the technical depth of medium format film, these close-up and three-quarter portraits document a people at a crossroads. Shot as Sierra Leone emerged from years of civil war, the series prioritizes the individual over the event.

By stripping away the environment to focus on the person, these images record a shared stillness—a collaborative methodology where the subject is a partner in the frame. These faces do not merely record the past; they are a formal representation of a nation’s future.
